Garage Conversions
Converting a garage is one of the easiest ways of getting extra space in your home, without adding an entire room. By taking care of waterproofing, opening up windows and bringing up a wall, you can convert your garage into a bedroom or family room. Remember, that a garage conversion will include electric and plumbing work, and installation of heating and cooling systems. You can also create additional storage space to continue using your garage to hold seasonal items and materials, household and gardening tools etc.
Your garage conversion plan should include co ordination with the rest of the house. For instance, if you are replacing the garage door with a window, make sure it blends in with the other windows of the house. The point is to make it look like it's an integral part of the house. When it comes to interiors however, you can let your imagination run wild. Ask your garage contractor about upgrades to be made to the roof and walls. If you have a flat roof, you may need to upgrade it before you invest in converting the garage into a livable space.
Some areas require special building permits before you begin garage conversion. For instance, if you convert your garage to a bedroom, you may need to install an emergency exit as per local Las Vegas, NV area building codes. If your garage conversion leads to defects in the drainage system of your property, you may need additional work done to handle this. Extra permits will also be needed. Some areas will need permits to replace the garage door with the window. Make sure that all permits are in place before you begin your garage conversion remodel.

I just purchased a home with a large, open kitchen and I would like to install a kitchen island. I've found a few online for approx $2000 and I'm wondering if an island built for my kitchen by a contractor would be less expensive.
